08-27-2016—Fake, Ahem—Faux, Grass

I'm a lover of all things plant. But not fake plant. Fake plants are so unlike what they're trying to be like, it's depressing. Of course not everyone feels the same. Several of my neighbors have fake lawns. One yard in particular uses fake grass with such restraint, even plastic plant haters can begrudgingly appreciate it.

It helps that the rest of their yard is super cool.

Bamboo towering over parked cars Wall of bamboo
I usually pass this neighbor's bamboo forest on my morning run. It has a calming leafy presence.

Gardening has to happen in the driveway; bamboos and their leaf litter occupy all ground space.

Neighbor's mixed privacy planting with Jacaranda, Cercidium, Rosa, Thunbergia, Brugmansia, Pelargonium, Strelitzia, Bambusa—and the kitchen sink. The plants seem to have poured themselves into and overflowed all spaces. I like.
